First Time Impressions of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance {Part 1}

So, in combination to getting excited over my favorite Mark Reads/Watches deciding to start a Mark Plays and stating that he'll be doing Kingdom Hearts, and just knowing that I've got to get my head out of the hole that I'd put it in, I figured I would start watching a walkthrough of KH3D. And when my mind started imploding upon itself in confusion, I decided that it'd be a good idea for me to write down my thoughts and reactions as I watched, so that I can help my brain try to make sense of it all. The person's walkthroughs that I'm watching seem to span 70 videos so far (and I have no idea if it's complete or not), so this is going to be Part 1, and covers the first ten videos. :)

-Oh, and the opening gives me all the feels. But Xion looks weird in 3D, as this is the first time I've seen her like that.

-Ooh, Xehanort's Heartless summoned his keyblade to kill Braig? Wah? How...how the FUCK does that work????!!!
-Um. Raft? What the ever-living fuck?
-URSULA, YOU MAKE NO SENSE. WHO IS THE 'HE' THAT TOLD YOU WHERE SORIKU ARE??? I GET THAT YOU'RE A 'PHANTOM', BUT....HUH???? AND WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOU???
-Um. Is the Keyhole for Destiny Islands at the bottom of the ocean? Or...is that, like, the Door to the Dreamworlds or whatever? I UNDERSTAND ABSOLUTELY ZERO OF ANY OF THIS
-Ooh, I really want to learn more about Keyblade Masters.
-Awwwwwwwwwww, Sora only wanted to take the Test to be there for Riku <333333333
-DAMN IT, I WANT TO READ THOSE ENTRIES YEN SID GIVES SORIKU!!!
-Okay. So, that whole interlude with Yen Sid was a flashback or something? TIMELINE CONFUSION.
-Whoa, the title to the Traverse Town world is totally different. Also, it looks amazing in 3D. And Sora's face looks funky. I'm just saying. Something about his eyes is weirding me out.
-You shout Riku's name funny, Sora.
-And how graceful of you to fall there, as well. XD
-Sora, you are the most adorable dork. And Neku, how do you know his name?
-"That's a mouthful" / "No, it's really not." XD XD XD [about Neku's name]
-Okay, so there are going to be continuing flashbacks to some meeting that SoRiku had with Yen Sid, at least for now? Hmm.
-Ooh. Great power retrieved from unlocking Seven Sleeping Keyholes? Veeeeeery interesting. And RAX, TVA, and Namine are all needed to defeat M. Xehanort? And....unlocking said Keyholes helps them get back how, I wonder?
-IT'S THE FAT SPIRIT! AND IT'S ROLLING OVER!!!! XD XD XD awwwwwwww
-Also, these flashbacks are an interesting way of simultaneously throwing us into the mechanics of DDD, and yet introducing us to them as well
-And ooh, is the fat one called Meow Wow? Huh. I don't think it looks much like a cat. It's adorably pudgy, though. XD
-HOLY FUCK. YOU CREATE THE SPIRITS YOURSELF????
-you can pet the spirits. Jesus, I can almost bet that I'll make tons of the fat ones, just because they're so damn cute! ^^

-Riku's hair looks funny to me. Also, he seems to think and wake up quicker than Sora.
-Joshua. Just....Joshua. His voice. His mannerisms. I can see why Ip and such are fawning all over him. He's earning my love reaaaaaally quick as well.
-....Fuck it, Josh is a prick, but I'm liking him already. Riku/Josh scenes FTW. And Rhyme's a "key to the Portal"? That mean that every Portal has a Key, Josh? And does every world have a Portal, or are there just the Seven Sleeping Worlds? And when you say Traverse Town is "split in two", do you mean between Sleeping and Waking, or are there two Sleeping ones?
-Oh, and Josh already knows Riku's button. Does Josh just know Sora's name like Neku did, or did he just pick it up from hearing Riku shout it? And then did Hooded Dude tell Neku for whatever bargain? QUESTIONS.
-Huh. Josh is pretty nice about explaining things. *pats him*
-That bat looks like a pumpkin with wings. Creepy Halloween Town thing. :/ I like Sora's fat thing better.
-Seriously, how is it considered smart to ally with someone like the Hooded Dude? Like, really? Although, hey there, Beat. Sorry about your sister, but I'm with Josh on this one.
-Wait, wait, wait, hold up Yen Sid. The counterpart to Kingdom Hearts is the X-blade? What the fuckery? I'm sorry, the wording is just weird to me. When he says "counterpart", I think of, like, a dark KH to a light KH, you know?
-OOH. OHO. WAIT. THERE WAS ONE KEYBLADE, THE X-BLADE, BUT THEN PEOPLE FORGED IMITATIONS??? How fascinating.
-MIND BLOWN. Okay, so firstly, the World only survived because of the innocence of children, basically, which is....interesting, but THE BEST BIT, the X-blade is made of light and darkness, like I thought, but it SHATTERED into 20 pieces, 7 Light, 13 Darkness. (why that division?) [A thought: kind of an odd coincidence, isn't it? There's also 7 Princesses of Heart, and technically 13 members of Org XIII. HMM.]
-MIND IS MORE BLOWN. The keyblade was originally made to conquer Light, and now some decided to use it to defend Light. (I'm loving this history lesson so friggin' much)
-Wait, true KH has NEVER been seen again? Hmm. Is X's H just a dumbass then?
-Hold up some more. ....How the fuck did MX use VenVan to forge the X-blade? Did he have to gather up the pieces or something? still zero comprehension, please explain soon
-Okay, so Neku and Hooded Dude just walked off and went about their business when Sora was out of it? Did Sora just keep laying there, or did he disappear or what? LOGISTICS PLEASE.
-Huh, the Spirits level up at a different pace than you. Hmm.
-woo sora you turned on a light :P
-.....How can the mailbox just MOVE??!! Wait, this is a dream-ish world after all, so, okay. Still, weird.
-Meow Wow/Fat Thing just makes my heart hurt with its cuteness. Just....ALL THE CUTE. ALL OF IT. It rivals a baby bunny in teh cute, I swear. *huggles it*
-Sora, you're like a kid in a candy store. XD and OH SHIT, HE'S FOUND RHYME!
-I've never heard that saying before Rhyme, but whatever you say. And she seems to be handling it pretty well. And lulz, if anyone can relate, it's Sora. I wonder why she has no memory, though?

-Official confusion. Why is it that Joshua is dreaming up Traverse Town? And how can he "dream up" people that he's never met before? Why is Rhyme the Portal? Is Terranort Look-a-Like that Riku is dealing with the same Hooded Dude that Sora is? So it's...not Xemnas? Or is? Some sort of Xehanort-y thing? And he looks like Terra why, exactly, if he's not precisely Terranort? XEHANORT CLUSTERFUCK IS AT EPIC HEIGHTS OF CONFUSING. enlightenment has still not been achieved
-So, did Traverse Town disappear when Leon/Aerith/Yuffie/Cid/Company go back to Radiant Garden, and then appear again when TWEWY characters lost their world?

-Yusssssss, thank you, Josh, for giving me an explanation. So, from what I'm understanding, Neku/Shiki/Beat/Rhyme died, and Joshua gathered what was left and tried to make them somewhat live again through Traverse Town. A dream Traverse Town? Awwww, Josh. ;;;;; And fuck's sake, you can sprout wings?! And so, SoRiku helped make TWEWY peeps exist for reals, and so...Josh, what, summoned them out here somehow?
-....'Kay, so does Traverse Town count as a "Sleeping Keyhole" then? And what happens to the world once it's "freed from its wakelessness"?
-Sora trying to be friendly to Frollo: XD XD XD
-Hunchback world = MORE CONFUSION
-And damn it, when Esmeralda said she wanted to help, I was hoping she meant that she was going to stay and kick ass with Sora. :(
-Frollo and Yen Sid seem to have the same VA
-also that flashback scene between Frollo and Quasi was a lot more effective in the movie. And since when does Frollo call him "Quasi"?

-Riku's story in Hunchback world starts by seemingly skipping back in time. Hmm.

I know how you feel - I was reading a fancomic one time where Roxas & Namine (who are a couple in that story) had a falling-out, and Roxas got so angry that he destroyed her sketchbook to "teach her a lesson." Pages and pages and pages later, after a lot of stuff has happened and blah blah blah, Roxas & Namine are finally reunited. And they're all lovey-dovey again, and whatever, but no matter how sorry Roxas was and how much he didn't act like a jerk for so long, I've still never forgiven him for the sketchbook thing in that story. *sweatdrop* That just really felt like crossing a line for me - less the "I'mma burn your pictures" aspect and more the way it felt so much like an abusive aspect of their relationship, even though he never actually hit her. It was so bad that nothing he could have done later in the story would have made up for it, in my eyes. :/

"In a way, I felt somewhat like everything had been retroactively invalidated" That's how I've felt about recent installments in the series seeming to retcon all the exposition we were given in KH2. *sweatdrop* I went so long thinking about Roxas, Ven, Namine, Sora, & Kairi in certain ways that it was difficult to adjust my thinking and interpretations, and I'm still resentful about some things. *sweatdrop*
